# snappy-erlang-nif
This is an Erlang NIF for Google's snappy fast compressor and decompressor.
Google snappy's official repository and bug tracking system is at:
- http://code.google.com/p/snappy/
Its source is included in this project.
# versioning
As the underlying BEAM and NIF wrapper code changes rarely, versions are
kept in lockstep with Google's releases. PRs to update these are
welcomed!
# usage
- this package is called `snapperl` on hex due to many conflicts
- https://hex.pm/packages/snapperl
- https://github.com/skunkwerks/snappy-erlang-nif
- mix: `{:snappy, "~> 0.0.0", hex: :snapperl}`
- rebar3: `{snappy, "0.0.0", {pkg, snapperl}}`
- erlang.mk: `dep_snapperl = hex 0.0.0`
update your versions accordingly.

# performance tests
Snappy is much faster than zlib's deflate compression, specially for reasonably large amounts of
data. Here follow a few basic tests.
